Principal's Welcome

Welcome,

Preparing each student to be successful is my paramount goal. I understand that students learn quicker when the delivery is tied to their lives and that learning can take place in many different ways in order to meet students’ needs. We all want our children to have a confidence about themselves as they mature both physically and academically. I believe this confidence is done partially through nurturing and respecting each member of the learning community.  Each member of our learning community needs to take an active role to ensure that students have the best possible chance to succeed. I am an active member in the Middle School learning community; and, encourage students to seek out the help they may need, be it academically and/or socially from any member of the Middle School team.

I enjoy forming positive relationships with the middle school learning community. As leader, I believe in being a visible member of our VVS community not only in the hallways and classrooms during school hours but also at countless extracurricular events. I want students to know I care about their academic successes as well as their interests after school hours.

I believe that all students can learn, but also understand there are times that certain needs have to be met for the learning to occur. In a single day, I may need to be a counselor to one student, a teacher to another, a mentor to yet another, a coach that provides positive reinforcement, or just a set of ears for a student that needs someone to talk to. The role of an administrator also includes setting clear expectations for both students and teachers, which I consider one of my strengths.

Creating partnerships with families of middle school students is something that I believe will continue to improve student achievement. The children of our school are the most important commodity we have and I realize that for all students to improve upon their successes they will need all parts of the learning community.

Sincerely,
Carrie Hodkinson
